True Story Tuesday – Haitian Pastor used by God

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

This weeks story comes from a good friend of Deidox and fellow filmmaker Chris Sinclair.  In the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, Pastor Ronel Mesidor turned his church and home into shelters for aid.  This short documentary tells how God used one man to offer comfort and hope in the midst of tragedy.

What is True Story Tuesday? Since the goal of Deidox is to tell true stories of how God is at work, very often we hear of powerful stories or situations that for one reason or another haven’t been made into a Deidox film. (Or, perhaps we should say they haven’t been made into films “yet.” You never know what the future might bring.) So every tuesday is True Story Tuesday where on our blog we post a quick story about how God is at work.

Women on Mission – myMissionfulfilled.com

MyMissionHeader

Deidox was recently reviewed by a really cool website called MyMISSIONfulfilled.com.  If you haven’t seen their site before it’s worth checking out.

The purpose of the site is to help women fulfill their mission as followers of Christ.  There are a number of articles, book/movie reviews, and other helpful insights to help inspire women to live missionally.

The website really resonates with our hearts at Deidox.  Our vision is to provide films that challenge and inspire individuals to be used by God.  It’s always encouraging to find like minded organizations.  We hope you will take some time to check out the My Mission Fulfilled site.

True Story Tuesday – Christians Fleeing From Iraq

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

This week’s story comes from Iraq. In a place of such conflict and violence this video reminds us that we need to continue praying for our Christian brothers and sisters there.

Production is underway on our next Deidox film

Monday, March 1st, 2010

This past weekend we started shooting out next Deidox film – Alyssa. It was so cool following her around with a camera and observing the unique perspective God has given her on life.

Here are a few stills from the first day of shooting. We’ll be shooting this story off and on over the next few weeks.

Also, you’ll notice a new team member with a camera. That’s Jacob Lewis. He and Jefferson Henson are working with us on this Deidox story. They also do media for Cornerstone Simi Valley (the church Francis Chan speaks at). We had a blast shooting with them.

Tomorrow we shoot our next Deidox film

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Hey friends. Tomorrow (Saturday, February 27) we will begin shooting our next Deidox film.

If you think about it, we’d love your prayers:

- Pray that the shoot goes well, health and protection (both physical and spiritual) for all involved.
- Pray for creativity and energy to do the best we can, and that we’re able to capture and tell the story that God wants us to tell.
- Pray for Alyssa, the girl we’re following. That God would speak and work through her.

We’ll be posting pictures and updates during the shoot through our twitter account - twitter.com/deidox.

Also, on this shoot we’ll be working with Jeff Henson and Jacob Lewis, two very talented film guys that do media with Cornerstone Simi Valley (Francis Chan’s Church). It’s our first shoot with them and we’re pretty excited about it. The team of Deidox filmmakers is expanding… we’ll have more news to share about that in the coming weeks.

If you’re curious, here’s the equipment were taking with us. Actually, here’s less than half of the equipment. We will have five cameras for this shoot because of some of the unique complexities in capturing this story live.

True Story Tuesday – Miraculous Escape From Jail

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

This week’s True Story Tuesday comes from Heather Mercer in an interview with Voice of the Martyrs. Heather was one of the eight missionaries held in prison and placed on trial in Afghanistan in 2001.

In the following video Heather shares about preaching the gospel in Muslim countries, and the miraculous story of a man she calls “Gideon.”

What is True Story Tuesday? Since the goal of Deidox is to tell true stories of how God is at work, very often we hear of amazing stories that for one reason or another haven’t been made into a Deidox film. (Or, perhaps we should say they haven’t been made into films “yet.” You never know what the future might bring.) So every tuesday is True Story Tuesday where we post a new story about how God is at work.

True Story Tuesday – Hope Alive in Haiti

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Hey Guys!

This Tuesday’s story comes from our good friend Seth Barnes’ blog Radical Living In A Comfortable World. He’s in Haiti right now and we thought we would share this.

So many things have been crushed in Haiti, people, homes, and government buildings. You’d think that hope would be one of them. Today we saw where a building had tumbled down on a man, snuffing his life out, leaving his blood and his shoes behind in the rubble. You’d think hope was lost in the rubble too.

But what we’re seeing has defied all our expectations.

We drove to meet a pastor and found the road blocked. Ahead in the middle of the street a band was playing and hundreds of people were dancing. We stopped and our gang piled out of the van. It wasn’t any one church – it was just a bunch of people celebrating the kingdom coming to Haiti through their dance.

Our youth pastors dove in and joined with them – twirling and singing with the masses.

Coming back they raved, “Wow – that was awesome! It was a moment of pure spiritual joy.”

We drove through the city streets and came to a complete halt as a huge parade of people blocked our way. They were carrying signs, “Jesus for Haiti. Haiti for Jesus.” They were singing. They were chanting. They were marching and dancing.

You can go a lifetime and never see anything like this. We can sing “Rend the heavens and come down,” but God already did – it’s happening here in Port-au-Prince.

Deidox at Verge 2010 update

Friday, February 5th, 2010

This week the Deidox team is attending the Verge 2010 conference in a rainy Austin, TX.  We’re sponsoring the Coffee Lounge, so if you’re at the conference we’d love to meet you in the cafe!

The Verge conference is real cool.  Its focus is on the missional church, and this place is packed full of people who are desiring to be on mission for God.  Seems like each one of them would make a great Deidox story.

Today we’ll also get to sit in on sessions with Francis Chan, Alan Hirsch, Hugh Halter, and Jeff Vanderstelt (from Soma!), all guys who have been hugely influential on our Deidox journey. Love it!

Deidox Cinematographer Nominated for Academy Award!

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Yesterday, nominations for the 2010 Academy Awards were announced, and we were thrilled to find out the film Kavi was nominated for an Oscar in the short live action film category.  Our friend John Harrison was the Cinematographer on the film.  John is the guy who has shot all of our Deidox films.  Also, the writer and director of Kavi, Gregg Helvey, is a friend of Deidox too. A few years ago Gregg even directed a behind-the-scenes film for us on a trip we took to Rwanda. We’re so excited for both John and Gregg!

Here’s the trailer for the fantastic short film Kavi. We hope you’ll be seeing a lot more of it and Gregg Helvey in the near future.

True Story Tuesday – Dave shares his secret

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Greetings friends!

This week’s story is an old favorite that the Chronicle Project team worked on before they were doing the Deidox films. The above video about a man named Dave was produced for Saddleback Church and their HIV/AIDS ministry. Enjoy!
